HARKER HEIGHTS - Eating healthy and clean isn't just a lifestyle choice for Luvina Sabree anymore. It is now her business.

Sabree opened So Natural Organic Restaurant & Market, her new restaurant, on Aug. 17. The restaurant features natural, clean and healthy menu options.

"I started the restaurant because this is the way I eat," Sabree said. "I wanted to eat clean food that was free of pesticides, hormones, steroids, and chemicals, and there weren't any restaurants like that in this area."

Specializing in comfort style food, So Natural offers a menu with no genetically modified food, as well as selections for customers eating Paleo, vegan or vegetarian and gluten-free diets.
Sabree, a Chicago native and former registered nurse, moved to Central Texas when her husband was stationed at Fort Hood.
 
"I loved being a nurse. I was a happy nurse, but I wasn't a fan of all the drugs and medicines that were prescribed to patients for every little thing," Sabree said. "Don't get me wrong . if I get in a car accident please take me to the emergency room, but I just know that so many things can be alleviated through a better diet."
 
Healthy Eating

Sabree began eating healthy and clean in 1997 after she started learning about organic growing and the dangers of processed, chemical-laden foods.
 
"When you eat processed foods laden with chemicals, it causes you to get sick," Sabree said, "Your body doesn't recognize these chemicals as food, and cannot absorb them . many times after turning to a better diet people gain more energy, lose weight, and just overall feel better. "
 
However, the switch to a healthier lifestyle and diet didn't happen overnight for Sabree.
"I used to be addicted to Pepsi," Sabree said,
"Anytime I hadn't had my Pepsi in a while I would get a headache and have to go pick some up. This change wasn't easy."
 
Now that she has adopted a natural diet and opened her restaurant, Sabree hopes to introduce Central Texas to a better way of eating.
 
"I pray that I can be a good steward and educate people on what good clean food is," she said.
"My goal is to serve people the cleanest and healthiest foods available at a reasonable price."
